Christmas To Do List: Start Planning For Christmas In July

The Impossible GIft Stack binder
Want to get started on your Christmas preparations right now? Here is a simple Christmas to do list featuring ideas from the book Simplify the Holidays, all of which are tasks that can be tackled right now, in July:
  • Make sure your card list and the addresses on it are up to date. If you don't already have a card list, now's the time to make one!
  • Start thinking about Christmas gifts by looking in stores, mail order catalogs and/or online.  I like shopping on Amazon.com because of their competitive prices and because they offer FREE shipping with orders of $25 or more. I find reaching that threshold is no problem when I am shopping for Christmas.
  • Buy party goods, napkins and other disposables in advance from party suppliers and online merchants like Amazon. My family prefers cloth napkins because they are environmentally friendly and more economical in the long run. Now is a good time to buy reusable Christmas products, too and buying them in the summer might mean you snag a better deal on eBay.
  • Take out your Christmas decorations and ornaments, sort them and give away any that you do not use. For my family, this last task constitutes the hardest real WORK on this page.

Of course, all of these tasks can be done at anytime of the year but doing them now, before the holiday season approaches, really does make a lot of sense.

Simplify the Holidays is the book that I use each year for ideas, tips and tricks for advance planning for Christmas but I would LOVE to add the Christmas  binder shown here to my collection of Christmas books. It is a perfect tool for organizing your own notes and plans for the holidays.  Just add tabs and use it to store your Christmas card list, gift lists, recipes, menu plans, party plans and so on. Your notes will always be together and always be easy to find.

Here’s to an organized Christmas!

Simplify Christmas With A Christmas Plan

One of the easiest ways to simplify Christmas has to be to start right now and to organize, organize, organize.  It is NEVER too early.  If you take a just a little bit of time right now to start planning for the holidays, you will reduce the stress and enjoy a wonderfully smooth and relaxed holiday season.

What you need is a plan and there are a number of ways to find a plan. For years, I have prepared for the holidays armed with a Christmas planner and I have found a couple of excellent planners for you that will not break your budget. As a matter of fact, it is hard to believe how inexpensive they are.

The first one is a ring-bound book called Simplify Your Holidays: A Christmas Planner to Use Year after Year by Marcia Ramsland. It is a 2008 book that has been reduced by more than 60 percent on Amazon meaning that you can buy it and use it to organize yourself for less than $10.  That's pretty impressive and the contents of this book sound impressive, too.  It is packed with information to help you with all of your holiday planning including gift buying, wrapping and mailing; organizing your Christmas cards; planning your home decorations; and preparing for holiday baking and meals. It promises to break the tasks down into pieces so you can work at them over time.

The book that I own is a slightly older one from Reader's Digest that was written by Allana Baroni and Voclo Webster. The tagline on this book is "How To Enjoy the Season Without Stress." It is a book from the Simpler Life series and promises to help with the same areas as the first book. It is packed with text including tips, hints and lists.  However, Simplify the Holidays is even less expensive than the first book and retails from Amazon sellers for as little as $2 plus shipping.

Of course you are bound to find lots of tips and tricks for organizing for Christmas as we build this blog so be sure to bookmark it and come back again and again. However, if you want to get started organizing for Christmas 2010 now, you might want to consider order one of these Christmas planners that you will have and use forever.

Here's to a joyful and stress-free Christmas!
